The Miami Art Week is about to start! A short anticipation of what you will find wandering around the city.
For the Miami Art Week (December 3–10), the city’s main artistic institutions boast their best and open their most important events and exhibitions, prepared and kept in stock year round in view of the great showcase. We would like to present them, waiting to give you the pictures and impressions that we will collect in a few days “on the field”.
We start from the magnificent Pérez Art Museum Miami, overlooking Biscayne Bay and lies within a charming historic building designed by architects Herzog and de Meuron, for us a must have. In addition to the collection of modern and contemporary international art, the museum will host until March 2018 Dara Friedman: Perfect Stranger, the first real presentation of the artist’s carrer, known for her great emotional impact films and video installations. For those who like parties on the evening of December 7 here it will be celebrate the Miami Art Week with live music!
If you are lazy and want to stay in Miami Beach Convention Center, home of the great fair, you can take a leap to Design Miami, Art Basel’s youngest (but official) little sister, who will host the world’s leading international galleries specializing in collections of the 20th and 21st centuries. An unmissable opportunity to gather new ideas and creative inspirations.
The Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami however, inaugurates the Everywhere Studio Opening Night and presents its point of view on the evolution of artists from the post war period to today, with over one hundred works of fifty well established artists including Roy Lichtenstein, Bruce Nauman, Carolee Schneemann, Matthew Barney, Rosemarie Trockel, Yves Klein and others. If you want to understand contemporary art, make a leap!
There are also the numerous satellite fairs around Art Basel and the Convention Center: Scope, worthy of attention and Art Miami, whose galleries are beautifully shown, anxious to go grade and be admitted to the main fair, featuring artists of good hopes and avant garde work. The occasion for collectors to sniff future art stars and anticipate the market. Pulse Miami, NADA and Art Untitled, others affiliated fairs, have surprised in the past and deserve a visit.
But the power of Art Basel is to fill the air of creativity and transform Miami into a great art site, able of hosting events, installations, shows and performances in the most disparate places. If you want to breathe a little bit of this atmosphere, take a ride to the Wynwood Arts District, which counts an impressive number of art galleries, museums, exhibition complexes, studios, spaces for design and fashion, and let you be amazed at the Wynwood Walls, one of the world’s biggest street art installations.
Time is cruel and see all will be a difficult mission. For your luck there is Look Lateral! Stay connected and we will make you live the best of Miami Art Week!
